โœฆ Synopsis

A molybdenum(V) monophosphate containing lead has been synthesized for the 5rst time. This new phase Pb 3 (MoO) 3 (PO 4 ) 5 crystallizes in the Pnma space group with a โ€ซุโ€ฌ 14.280( 1) A > , b โ€ซุโ€ฌ 15.679(1) A > , and c โ€ซุโ€ฌ 8.129(1) A > . The crystal structure was re5ned up to R โ€ซุโ€ฌ 0.0406 and R w โ€ซุโ€ฌ 0.0446. The original threedimensionnal framework of this compound, [Mo 3 P 5 O 23 ]

, can be described by the assemblage of [Mo 3 P 5 O 28 ] ribbons running along bo and forming elliptic tunnels where the Pb 2ุ‰ cations are located. The topological analogy of this structure with aeschynite is emphasized. The stereoactivity of the 6s 2 lone pair of Pb 2ุ‰ is discussed.
