## Abstract A shortβrange force constant model has been applied to investigate the Raman and the infrared wavenumbers in R~2~BaNiO~5~ (R = Y, Gd) in their orthorhombic phase of space group __Immm__. Calculations of zoneβcenter phonons are made with seven stretching and four bending force constants.
Lattice dynamical calculations on high Tc superconductor NdBazCu307 and non superconductor PrBazCw07 are studied using the shell model. Far Infrared reflection spectra of PrxNdl-xBazCU307-y and PrxYI-xBazCU307-y are studied for various Pr concentration x. Free carrier concentration for these systems
