โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

Protein scaffold complexes are a key mechanism by which a common signaling pathway can serve many different functions. Sequestering a signaling enzyme to a specific subcellular environment not only ensures that the enzyme is near its relevant targets, but also segregates this activity to prevent indiscriminate phosphorylation of other substrates. One family of diverse, wellโ€studied scaffolding proteins are the Aโ€kinase anchoring proteins (AKAPs). These anchoring proteins form multiโ€protein complexes that integrate cAMP signaling with other pathways and signaling events. In this review, we focus on recent advances in the elucidation of AKAP function. ยฉ 2009 IUBMB IUBMB Life, 61(4): 394โ€“406, 2009

The serotonin (5-HT)1B receptor is expressed in the central nervous system (CNS) of rodents and its homologous 5-HT1D beta receptor is expressed in human. These receptors are distributed in both serotonergic and non-serotonergic neurons, where they act as auto- or heteroreceptors, respectively. Stud

A large fraction of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored proteins and Src-like kinases are confined to glycolipid-enriched membrane (GEM) microdomains. The particular membrane topology of GPI-anchored proteins has led to the postulation of the existence of integral membrane proteins linking e
