✦ Synopsis

I n an earlier paper it was shown that a quantitative spatial pattern of development can be rendered directly visible in the cyprinodont teleost, Oryzias latipes by means of oxidation-reduction indicators (Child, 43b). This pattern is definite in character for each developmental stage and undergoes definite changes with progress of development. More recently it has been possible to check and compare the pattern of Oryzias with that of) another teleost species, a cyprinid, Brachydanio rerio (Roosen-Runge, '38). The two species show interesting points of similarity and difference.

The kindness of Dr. D. M. Whitaker of Stanford University and of his assistant, Dr. E. A. Reed, who was in charge of the aquarium stock, in making available developmental material of this species is deeply appreciated.

The paper presents experimental results on an in situ optical absorption study of reduction/oxidation processes in YAlO 3 . The increase in the absorption of the bands at 22,000 and 40,000 cm -1 during annealing in an oxidizing atmosphere as well as their bleaching during reduction were studied in Y

## Abstract The stability of Ni‐YSZ anodes as part of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) towards redox cycling is an important issue for successfully introducing the technology. Detailed knowledge of the NiO‐Ni transitions and their impact on the mechanical integrity of the whole system is necessary to
