β¦ Synopsis
The Distributed Failure Probability (DFP) approach to the prohh,m o/ dependent failures in systems is presented. The basis o[ the approach is that the failure probability ~[" a component is a variable. The source o[" this rariahility is the change in the 'em'ironment'~?['the component, where the term 'environment' Z~ used to mean not only oht'ious environmental.[~tctors such as temperature etc.. hut also such fiwtors as the quality o[" ma#ttenanee attd manu./aeture. The .]~iilure prohahilit)" L~" distributed among these various 'ent, ironments' giving rise to the Distributed Failure Prohahilitv method. Within the framework which thLs method represents, modelling assumptions can he made. based both on engineering judgement and on the data directly. As such, this DFP approach provides a sotmdlr hased attd scrutable technique hy which dependent.[ailures can he quantitatirelt' assessed.
