Abstract

The 3โ€D conformal perfectly matched layer (PML) is realized by the finiteโ€element method (FEM). We outline the procedure, and demonstrate that it works well on highly curved scatterers. A significant challenge in this implementation is ensuring the continuity of the physical parameters in the PML region. We present explanation from the computerโ€aided geometric design (CAGD) point of view, and a normal curvatureโ€based approximation is proposed to overcome this difficulty.โ€ƒยฉ 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A real spatial transform, which maps an infinite outer region surrounding an open waยจeguide to a layer of finite thickness, is described in this letter. The mapping is introduced in the form of a real stretch of coordinates, and then, it is interpreted as an anisotropic layer in unstretched coordina

## Abstract In this paper a new 3D multilayer element is presented for analysis of thickโ€walled laminated composites. This element uses two steps to calculate the full stress tensor. In the first step the inโ€plane stresses are computed from the material law using a displacement approximation, and t
