Simple one-step synthesis of [1]benzothieno [3,2-b][1]benzothiophene (BTBT) from commercially available o-chlorobenzaldehyde is reported. The procedure is also applicable to the synthesis of dinaphtho[2,3-b:2 0 ,3 0 -f]thieno[3,2-b]thiophene (DNTT).
