Regeneration of carbonyl compounds from their 1,3-dithiolanes and dithianes was achieved using tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP, aq. 70%) in high yields. Thus, an efficient, economic and experimentally simple protocol for dethioacetalization has been demonstrated.
