Species composition and periodicity of phytoplankton were studied in relation to various physieo-chemical pmameters over a period of 18 months in the two basins of Lake Sat Tal. Taxonomic analysis led t o 54 species. Phytoplankton density in the euphotic zone ranged from 0.33 >( lo5 t o 4.12 x 105 c

β¦ Synopsis
The phytoplankton community in Lake Khurpatal (Kumaun Himalya), India, was analyzed in relation to physico-chemical variables. Phytoplankton biomass ranged from 2.7 to 20.0 g m-3 in the euphotic zone of the lake. Dinoflagellates monopolized the algal community with a mean annual contribution of 94.5 O/o to the total phytoplankton biomass. The community coefficient used to quantify the seasonal changes in algal population reflected the fact that successional episodes were not very significant, the percentage similarity among the consecutive algal samples ranging from 47.8 to 89.9 %. The Phytoplankton community was characterized by low species richness, low equitability and species diversity. Various ecological characteristics of the community are discussed and the phytoplankton biomass is also compared with that of some tropical and temperate lakes.

Certain parameters of the zoobenthos community structure, viz., population density, species richness, diversity, dominance and similarity indices in the inshore area (0-1 m stratum) of Lake Naini Tal were examined during 1978-1979. Significznt changes in community structure were found both in space
A comprehensive study of phyto-and zooplankton and macrozoobenthic components in Lake Xainital showed that species richness was high for plankton and low for macrozoobenthos. The algal biomass was dominated by greens (54 O/") and blue-greens (31 4"), the zooplankton population by copepods (84 O/o),
A total of thirty tttxa of benthic macroinvertebrates were collected from Lake Nixini Tal ( m i l = 48 ha, mean depth= 16.2 m) situated 1937 m above sea-level in the Kumaun Rcgion of thc Himalayit. Of these, Chiranomus plumosus and Tubifex tubifex were namerically dominant, whilr Vivipnrus benyalens
## Abstract Yearβround changes of phytoplankton, organic and inorganic seston, and dissolved and suspended concentrations of Ca, Mg, Na, K, Fe, Mn, Zn, and Cu were studied and correlated in Long Lake, an ultraβoligotrophic alpine flowage lake of northcentral Colorado, U.S.A. Dissolved cation levels
SeasonaI variation in population density, birth mtc, mortality and production of a daphnid WLS st,udied in a high, altitnde sub-tropical lake. A bimodal growth curve with maxima during summer and autumn was observed. A positive correlation was reported between fecundity and death rate, probably due
