Some results of a comparative study of the design analysis according to Eurocode 3 (ENV 1993-1-1: 1992-1) and the Russian Steel Structures Code SNiP II-23-81 * have been presented. A different approach to cross-section classification has been pointed out. Due to the Russian Code interpretation of local buckling effects in compression and bending members, higher resistance values have been achieved in certain cases.
