## Abstract A broad band U‐slot microstrip patch antenna on a single layer foam substrate is investigated using equivalent circuit concept. A parametric study has been carried out to investigate the effects caused by arm length, base length, and slot width of the U‐slot. The effects of substrate he

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
A microstrip patch antenna (MPA) with four resonance frequencies is presented. The size of the proposed antenna is reduced using shorting wall and window techniques. The effect of window areas on the shorted antenna parameters has been studied. A planar triple‐frequency developed to quad‐frequency shorted MPA at frequencies 0.9, 1.8, 2.4, and 5.4 GHz has been studied. A bandwidth enhancement is achieved for the 0.9, 2.4, and 5.4 GHz frequencies. Fabrication and measurement of S~11~ for the proposed antenna has been done. The measured results have been compared with the simulated results using commercial software HFSS version‐8.0. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A simple design of a dual-frequency microstrip antenna using a single rectangular patch and a single probe feed is described. Experimental results of the antenna resonating at frequencies of about 1.42 and 1.54 GHz are presented. Measurements are uerijed by the theoretical results obtained from full
