✦ Synopsis

Abstract

This paper presents a novel broadband design of a probe‐fed patch antenna, and a constructed prototype suitable for applications in a DCS (1710–1880 MHz) cellular system base station is demonstrated. The proposed antenna has a thick air substrate for broadband operation, and is fed by a probe feed with a short probe pin, which is connected through a triangular conducting patch to one of the patch's radiating edges. By tuning the flare angle of the triangular conducting patch, good impedance matching over a wide frequency range is obtained. Details of the proposed antenna and experimental results of the constructed prototypes are presented and discussed. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 30: 341–343, 2001.

## Abstract A new broadband probe‐fed patch antenna is proposed. We demonstrate that, by feeding an air–substrate patch antenna at the patch edge using a probe feed coplanar with the radiating patch, broadband operation can easily be obtained. A wideband pentagon-slot microstrip antenna with a semicircle probe feed is proposed. The broadband characteristic is achieved by cutting a pentagon slot at each corners of the patch. The proposed antenna is able to achieve an impedance bandwidth of 68.3% for a VSWR of less than 2. Experimental comp

## Abstract A low‐cost microstrip‐line‐fed shorted‐patch antenna suitable for applications in a PCS (1710–1880 MHz band) base station is presented. Both the shorted patch and the 50 Ω microstrip feed line have an air substrate, and the material cost is thus reduced to be minimum. And by using a pai
