It is desirable to change the shift schedule of an automatic transmission according to the road gradient. We have developed a calculation method of drive torque, and applied it to calculate the road gradient the car is running over. By improving the detecting method of vehicle speed and the masking method of brake effect, gradient calculation accuracy of + 20% is obtained without a torque sensor. This makes it possible to control the vehicle with the present accuracy, when used together with other parameters to judge the control situation.

We have developed a helical LSD of torque-sensing type, aiming at improvement of driving stability and traction in a front-wheel drive car. We have observed how this helical LSD affects steering characteristic and traction improvement of a front-wheel drive car by comparing other system LSD's with open differential in actual vehicle installation conditions.
