X-ray diffraction study of Kuznetsk Basin coals Lukovnikov, A. F. et al. Khim. Tverd. Top/., 1996, (5), 3-13. (In Russian) Eight coal samples from seven coal seams of the Kuznetsk Basin were studied to determine their X-ray phase. It was found that with coal rank the concentration of graphite-like phase increased with a decrease in the content of polynaphthenic components.
Coals of the same rank had a higher graphitization degree for the dull type samples. Analogous changes during heating of the coals at 300-6007ยฐC and during thermal processing of mixtures (1:l) of coal with a petroleum product were observed.

Using wide angle X-ray scattering methods, the phase interference curves and the inter-layer structure curves of thee of the Argonne Premium Coals were measured. These analyses indicate the inter-layer structuring is rank dependent. In the sub-bituminous coal (Wyodak-Anderson), the number of layers
