โœฆ Synopsis

01 So/id fuels (preparation) 97101639 Preparation of activated carbons from bituminous coals with CO2 activation. 1. Emts of oxygen content in raw coals Teng. H. et ul. /,I</. E/IS. Chem. Res., 1996, 35. (I I), 4043-4049. Activated carbons were prepared from three Australian bituminous coals. The preparation process consisted of carbonization followed hy activation in COz. Experimental results reveal that the oxygen content of the coals has a great influence on the hehaviour during preparation and on the properties of the products. 97101640 Preparation of chemical clean coal Chen. C. e/ (I/. Hlrationfi /_~gofj~ Drrxue Xltehao, 1996, 22. (3). 250-254. (In Chinese) An efficient method for the preparafion of clean coal is the removal of mineral matter and sulfur from coal by NaOH/HCI treatment. More than 90% mineral matter and 60% sulfur can be removed by this treatment at 170-3OO~C'. S-10 wt.% NaOH. and reaction time l-2 h. The ash content of this chemically cleaned coal is about 0.04-0.Y wt.%, for selected coals. The results show that quartz. pyrite and organic sulfur are more difficult to remove than clays and acid-soluble matter. 97101641 Preparation of ultrafine and ultraclean coal Zhu. H. et n/. Pmt. Annlt. Inr. fil/shlrr@ Con/ Co+ 1995, 12, 773-776. The authors conducted the preparation of ultraclean and ultrafine coal in their laboratory. The coal particle size could be reduced to ahout I I'm by using a special micron grit mill after a bowl mill. The coal with particle size of less than 2-3 ,,rn could then be produced with an ash and S content of les\ than 0.2'; and 0.08'?, respectively. 97101642 Present-day trends for production of smokeless briquetted fuel for compact units and household stoves Golovin. G. S. e/ cl/. C&o/'. 1996, (2), 38-42. (In Russian) The demand and supply of lumped fuel for small-scale units. production methods for smokeless hriquetted coal. and smoke evaluation during combustion are explored.

The authors determined the avalanching behaviour of two coal types, one of good and the other of poor handleability characteristics. This revealed significant differences in the nature of flow of the coals. The criteria established will now enable a structured study of the variables that affect hand
