✦ Synopsis

By-products related to fuels sand in 3:l and 2:1 ratios for lettuce was similar to peat substrate alone, while the yield of tomato was higher if the 3:l ratio was used. 10% addition of brown coal ash had an advantageous effect on the yields of both of the tested vegetables.

97lQQ377 Fireside slagging, fouling and high-temperature corrosion of heat-transfer surface due to impurities in steamraising fuels Bryers, R. W., Prog. Energy Condust. So., 1996, 22, (1) 29-120. This review contains 48 references and presents in chronological order the art of ash deposition while firing coal, the mechanistic approach to the problem, the recent introduction of sophisticated analytical procedures, and modelling of mineral transformations, and ash deposition underway. The adaptation of fuels such as ash oil, petroleum coke, municipal waste, wood and biomass to the steam raising process are presented individually in the order in which they were introduced. Empirical indexes currently used to characterize the slagging or fouling potentials of impurities in fuels are given and fundamental data are provided where necessary to illustrate the mechanisms for ash deposition.

In this study activated carbons were prepared from three Australian bituminous coals. The influence of coal oxidation on the carbonization and activation processes and the structure of the resulting activated carbons were explored. The oxidation was conducted at 200Β°C in 0, for 6 hours. During the o
