โœฆ Synopsis

Carbon deposits are generally formed during the steamcracking of hydrocarbons. According to the hydrocarbon used, the carbonaceous material can be formed as follows: the initial hydrocarbon reacts in the gas phase: in the case of n hexane, gaseous reactants decompose on the wall of the reactors. The carbonaceous film is smooth and shiny; in the case of cyclohexane and toluene, the gas phase reactions induce the formation of high molecular hydrocarbons which condense in microdroplets which strike the substrat. The microdroplets spread or do not spread, depending on the type of solid sub&rat.

The pyrolysis of carbon/phenolic composites is a critical step in the manufacture of high temperature carbon/carbon components. Understanding the reaction kinetics of the pyrolysis reactions is essential for advancement in the processing of carbon/carbon materials. To increase the understanding of t

## On pyrolysis of a phenol-formaldehyde resin at temperatures up to 700ยฐC there was no change in the infra-red spectrum below 300ยฐC but above this temperature the hydroxyl absorption began to decrease.
