✦ Synopsis

The title compound, C 24 H 20 N 4 O 2 , is an unsymmetrical Schiff base which has potential as a hexadentate ligand. There is a relatively strong O-HÁ Á ÁN intramolecular hydrogen bond. The X-ray crystallographic results show that, despite the presence of the N 4 O 2 group, the title compound does not exhibit a conformation conducive to hexadentate binding. The three pyridine rings show a propeller-like arrangement.
