Certain petroleum cokes produce "doublet" (001) X-ray diffraction peaks after they have been heattreated in the 1300" to 1900ยฐC temperature range. These cokes undergo an irreversible volume expansion in this same range. If an additive such as Fe,O, which suppresses the volume expansion is added, the
