✦ Synopsis

At the Lund Institute of Technology, a reactor concept has been developed, operating with circulating fluidized beds and segregated gas phases. The reactor has been demonstrated to work in the gasification of black shale, utilize ng the char as heat carrier. The reactor principle proposed can also be applied to physica? operations such as activated carbon adsorption. In this case, slight constructional modifications are needed. The application of solvent recovery 1s discussed from a theoretical point of view, utilizing the reactor principle proposed. KEYWORDS Clrculatlng fluldlzed bed, gasification of black shale, activated carbon adsorptlotl, solvent recovery. GASIFICATION OF URANIUM-BEARING BLACK SHALE The Swedish black shale deposits with its uranium content of 0.020-0.035 %, and kerogen content of 20-25 % are potentially interesting for commercial exploitation_ For a recovery of the fossil energy in the shale the gasification route has been considered , in a production of a medium BTU or synthesis gas. Approximate and ultimate analyses of the shale utilized in this investigation, from the Ranstad deposit, are shown In Table 1.

## Abstract In the present work, the variations in the solids circulation rate and solids holdup were analyzed to study the behavior of a liquid‐solid circulating fluidized‐bed (LSCFB) regime. The results confirm the existence of two regions in the regime of LSCFB. A new concept of critical liquid
