โฆ Synopsis
K.) and G. Jouquet (Centre d'&des
Nuclkaires de Saclay, France). The shear modulus of hot-worked pyrolytic graphite has been measured by the torsional resonant frequency of compound aluminium/graphite specimens. Material of density 2.23 g/cm* gave a C,, value of I.3 f 0.3 x loo dyn/cml. Neutron irradiations at 30ยฐC produced an apparent maximum value of 15 x 10'0 dyn/cml at 5 x 10" nvt (Ni). Annealing at 700% was sufficient to remove this increase.

The model used to evaluate the single interstitial migration energy from property changes due to interstitials is extended to account for vacancy contributions. The annealing function obtained can be used to determine the relative contributions of the defects and is sufficiently sensitive to disting
Influence parameters on the irradiation induced change in the Young's modulus investigated for the graphitic matrix for spherical fuel elements are discussed. The irradiation behaviour is compared with that of gilsocarbon graphite.
