โœฆ Synopsis

  1. Optical reflectivity of a papbite single crystal* E. S. Bomar and W. P. Eatherly (belay and Ceramics L&&ion, Oak Ridge ~at~~a~ ~~~at~, Oak Ridge, Ten~ssee). The reflectivity of a single crystal of Ticonderoga graphite was measured using a microscope photometer. The dependence of intensity on sample rotation was determined for the reflected beam with and without an analyzer. The results agreed with theoretical predictions within experimental error. Slightly higher values for optical properties were found than were reported in the literature.

Measurements have been made on the concentrations of vacancies and interstitial clusters in singlecrystal graphite irradiated with neutrons in a reactor and with carbon ions in an accelerator. The irradiations were carried out over a range of temperatures from 30" to 1100ยฐC and a range of total init

integrated intensities and diffuse X-ray scattering were measured from highly oriented pyrolytic graphite to characterize the thermal displacement parameters. Values of the mean square displacements (uz) of the carbon atoms perpendicular to the basal planes are large, whereas, the displacements are
