β¦ Synopsis
The influence of forced composition cycling was investigated on the oxidation of CO over vanadium pentoxide catalyst. Cycling was effected by a square wave in the feed composition ratio of CO to 02 by alternating the feed ratio between two predetermined values at regular intervals. The time average rates obtained under the transient conditions were observed to be a function of the feed composition ratio, the amplitude and the frequency of cycling, Modelling of the results was undertaker and a threestep model suggesting desorption to give CO2 as the rate controlling step was obtained at 395OC whilst at a higher temperature of 44UΒ°C a two-step model involving equally important chemisorption and reoxidation steps was found to adequately predict the data.
