✦ Synopsis
In the title compound, C~16~H~11~ClO~2~, an unnaturally occurring isocoumarin, the benzene ring is nearly perpendicular to the planar isocoumarin ring system. The crystal packing is stabilized by intra- and intermolecular C—H...Cl and C—H...O hydrogen bonds.
