✦ Synopsis

The impact strength of UDmodel-composites was studied systematically by reinforcement with varied surface treated type I and type II C-fibres. The results show a different behaviour in crack-propagation using high modulus or high tensile C-fibres. This different behaviour is discussed especially with respect to the ILSS of the composites.

Despite their high cost, carbon fibres are an attractive choice as reinforcement for reactive matrices such as cement because of their chemical inertness at ambient temperatures. Since these fibres have very high specific strength and elastic modulus, only a small volume per cent of the fibre is req

HT-fibres (Grafil XAS12K) were coated with thin layers of polydimethylsiloxane in order to prevent or diminish the adhesion of the phenolic resin to the fibre surfaces. The physical and chemical changes of the polydimethylsiloxane layer at various stages of curing and thermal treatment were studied
