ÁH 2 O, the cytosine molecule is protonated and oxalic acid is in the monoionized state. The structure is stabilized by O-HÁ Á ÁO and N-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds, and van der Waals interactions. The water molecules are also found to mediate interactions between oxalate anions and cytosinium cations.
