Our Interest In the synthesis of four-membered rimgs bearing bulky groups 3 as potential precursors of sterlcally hindered cyclobutadienes prompted us to investigate the reaction of ,& with various acetylenes. The resulting cyclobutenones would be a close step to our goal.
