By 31st December 1989, a worldwide total of 7,536 desalting units with a total capacity of 13,297,000 m 3 /d had been installed or contracted (Figs 133 89 01 and 133 89 02) In comparison to a proceeding survey, the market recovered very well in 1989, since more than double the capacity of desalting plants was contracted in this year than in 1988 and 1987 and almost 40 % more than in 1986
