The title compound, C 26 H 32 , was retrieved as one of three products from the reaction of tert-butyllithium with 11,12dimethylene-9,10-dihydroethenoanthracene and 4,5-diiodopentacyclo[4.3.0.0 2,4 .0 3,8 .0 5,7 ]nonane. The structure shows the expected ethenoanthracene geometry with molecules arran

β¦ Synopsis
Reaction of tert-butyllithium with 11,12-dimethylene-9,10dihydro-9,10-ethanoanthracene and 4,5-diiodopentacyclo-[4.3.0.0 2,4 .0 3,8 .0 5,7 ]nonane gives three products, one of which crystallizes from petroleum ether as the title compound, C 44 H 46 , (I). Molecules of (I) are positioned on inversion centers (Z 0 = 0.5) in the space group P2 1 /n and lack any discernible intermolecular interactions.

## Abstract The photochemistry of 11,12βbis(aminomethyl)β9,10βdihydroβ9,10βethenoanthracene (4) was investigated in solution and in the solid state. Direct irradiation of 4 gave the singlet state photoproduct 5, whereas the triplet derived photoproduct could only be obtained by irradiating the bis(
