✦ Synopsis

The formation and reduction with hydrogen of ordered oxygen layers on Rh( I 10) has been studied by means of LEED, Auger spectroscopy and thermal desorption. We show that it is possible to prepare clean, (1 X n) reconstructed Rh ( I 10) surfaces by suitable thermal and chemical treatment. Adsorption of oxygen on a Rh ( 1 IO) surface followed by heating to 700 K results in (2x3), (2~2)p2mgorc( ) structures (n-3,4 and 5), dependingon orcygen coverage. Reduction by hydrogen at 370 K results, respectively, in ( 1 x3), ( 1 x2) and (1 x n) structures which are oxygen-and hydrogen-free as judged by AES and TDS.

The ( 1 xn) structures are m&stable and revert to ( 1 x 1) at temperatures above 480 K. These results offer the possibility of studying a clean Rh( I IO) surface both in its unreconstructed state and in a variety of reconstructed phases.

## Abstract We shall prove here that any binary relation on a base __E__ with cardinality __n__ > 6 is reconstructible from its restrictions of cardinality 2, 3, 4 and (__n__ ‐ 1). This proof needs results of part I of this paper where we characterize any pair of relations __R__, __R__' which are 2
