This paper considers the research and development of insulating materials for the large helical device (LHD) to be built as a plasma fusion experiment in Japan. Superconducting magnets will be used to generate the magnetic field for the LHD and the purpose of this work is to make proposals for the m
We report results of folded waveguide antenna experiments with high power, up to 1 MW, which include the dependence of plasma loading resistance on the plasma density and how much r.f. power can be delivered. We propose its application to the large helical device, which is a heliotron-torsatron devi
Performance tests were carried out on a force-cooled Nb-Ti superconducting poloidal coil as part of the R&D programme for the Large Helical Device project. The test coil, known as TOKI-PF, has a poloidal shape with 600 mm inner and 820 mm outer diameters, and operates at nominal current of 25.6 kA.
