The title compound, C 18 H 16 O 2 , was prepared using literature procedures and crystallized from an acetone-toluene solution (50:50 v/v). The dihedral angle between the two aromatic rings is 9.28 (8) A ˚. The crystal packing is stabilized by van der Waals forces.
