In the title compound, C 18 H 18 O 4 , the dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 9.07 (7) . Intermolecular C-HÁ Á ÁO interactions form chains along the c axis. The crystal structure is further stabilized by C-HÁ Á Á interactions.

✦ Synopsis
In the title cocrystal, 0.972(C 18 H 19 NO 4 ).0.028(C 17 H 16 BrNO 3 ), which arose from an impure starting material, all the atoms are overlapped except for one OMe group and the Br atom. The dihedral angle between the benzene ring mean planes is 18.20 (13) . A weak N-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bond helps to establish the non-centrosymmetric crystal packing.

The title compound, C 18 H 18 O 5 , was prepared by the condensation of 2-hydroxyacetophenone with 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde. The trimethoxyphenyl and hydroxyphenyl rings of the chalcone system are approximately coplanar.
The title molecule, C 18 H 17 ClO 4 , is slightly distorted from planarity. The dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 11.6 (2) . The crystal packing is stabilized by C-HÁ Á Á interactions and van der Waals forces.
