Simple a-haloalkyllithiums have been shown to exist as stable entidmsat low temperatures (l-5). However little data have been accumulated on u-haloalkyllithiums bearing a carbanionstabilizing group on the z-carbon. Our interest in the synthetic utility of sulfur-stabilized carbanions (6-81, coupled with a recent communication on u-halolithi\rm sulfoxidee (9) prompts us to report the first preparation and characterization of a-chloroalkyllithium sulfonic acid derivatives.
