✦ Synopsis
a-Chlorination of eulfoxides baa been reported to occur when sutfoxides are allowed to react with tosyl chloride (1). NCXl (2). PhXl2 (3) or t_BuOCl(4) in the presence of pyridine. We wish to report that the chlorination of sulfoxides with SO2Cl2 in CH2CI2 in the absence of base yields a-chlorosulfoxides rapidly and generally in good yield. The reactions were carried out under anhydrous conditions at -X0 for diakyl sulfoxides and either -78O or O" for araIky1 sul-
