Triterpenes, X X V I ) . On the Structure of "Theasaponin", a Mixture of Saponins from Thea sinensis L. Exhibiting Strong Antiexudative Properties
Frpm the seeds of Thea sinensis L. a crystalline saponin mixture, "theasaponin", is isolated; its aglycon part is nonuniform. It mainly consists of theasapogenol A, B and E, in which 1 mole of acetic acid and 1 mole of a mixture of tiglinic acid and angelic acid are esterified at C-21 and C-22. The structure of the sugar moiety is elucidated by methylation and partial hydrolysis. Accordingly the glucuronic acid directly bound to the aglycon bears at C-2 a p-D-xylopyranosyl-( 1 -+2)-a-~-arabinopyranosyl residue and at C-3 a p-D-galactopyranosyl group.
