✦ Synopsis
The development of photieally evoked afterdischarges was investigated in rats between 8 and 30 days of age in ehronical experiments. The potentials were elicited using a stimulation flash frequency of 1,5 c. p. s. and were recorded from the optic cortex.
-
The photically evoked potentials were fully developed until the 18th day of age.
-
The first photically evoked afterdischarges appeared between 18 and 26 days of age; 50 per cent of the animals showed these afterdiseharges at the 20th day. The frequency of the afterdischarges amounted to 5.5--6.5 c. p. s. and was unchanged in the course of development.
-
Using a light stimulus frequency of 6--7 c. p. s. photieally evoked recruitment appeared from the 20th day onwards.
A possible mechanism, which could explain these results, is discussed.
