The title compound has been prepared from bis(phenylethynyl)magnesium and N, N, N′,N′‐tetramethylethylenediamine (tmeda) and investigated by X‐ray diffraction methods (orthorhombic space group Cmcm, Z = 4, 696 (reflections, R = 0.049). It represents a first example of an organomagnesium compound with octahedral coordination of the central atom. The phenylethynyl ligands are in trans position.
