Abstract

Experiments are described which establish the „cyanide effect”︁. In strongly alkaline solutions (hydroxide or carbonate) benzoylcholine undergoes hydrolysis but does not appreciably react with glycine. In the presence of cyanide, however, considerable amounts of hippuric acid are formed concurrent with hydrolysis.
