Abstract

From the atomic models it is evident, that only those 1:2‐chromium and ‐cobalt‐(III)complexes of the azo and azomethine series which form 6–6‐ring complex systems coordinate as «sandwiches» and therefore produce isomers. In this arrangement the coplanarity of the chromophoric system is lost. On the other hand 5–6‐ring complexes conform to the Drew‐Pfitzner model, wherein the two dyestuff molecules are coordinated perpendicularly to each other and thus cannot form stereoisomers. This view is supported by the absorption spectra of the complexes.
