Abstract

The synthesis of three derivatives of phenylbutazone with a hydroxy group in the butyl side chain is described, among them γ‐hydroxy‐phenylbutazone [1, 2‐diphenyl‐4‐(γ‐hydroxy‐n‐butyl)‐pyrazolidine‐3,5‐dione] (IV), the laevo‐rotatory isomer of which is one of the metabolites of phenylbutazone in man.
