SUMMAKY
The vapor pressure of a saturated salt solution (the salt acting as inert electrolyte) is lowered by foreign solutes to an amount which is proportional to the molar concentration of the foreign solute. Any ion not contained in the inert electrolyte is acting as a foreign solute. Basing on that effect, a new method for the determination of the relative weights of ions has been developed and the principle of HILL was applied thereby. Sodium chloride acted as an inert electrolyte. The method has been applied to a number of different salts (foreign solute) with good success.
