✦ Synopsis

The results of testing the bending-strength of intact tibiae and these with drill-holes by means of a testing-apparatus (Zwick) were as follows:

1. The avarage diminution of mechanieal force required to produce a fracture in a tibia with 8 drill-ho]es is 13.5°/o with a standard deviation of s = 10.05% .

2. This diminution is ]ess with rising bone-age.

3. In a test with application of bending forces the tibia reveals the properties of an elastie and subsequent]y of a plastic material. In tibiae with drill-ho]es the range of plastic derermarion is shortened.
