2-Aryl-3H-indol-3-ones (Sa-0) have been synthesized via methanol trapping reaction in singlet oxygenation of 2-arylindoles (la-o), followed by thermal decomposition of the resultant 2-. aryl-2-methoxy-3-oxc2,3-dihydroindoles (2a-0) in good yields.
