UV. Irradiation of N‐Phenacylformamides

UV. irradiation of suitable N‐phenacylformamides (e.g. 2) leads under transfer of the formyl H‐atom to the corresponding β‐lactams (e.g. 3). Scope and structural limitations of the novel reaction are discussed.
