Abstract

The mathematical‐statistical problem of the most probable form of a chain molecule is again treated. As model serves a geometrical polygon with equal sides, which in space takes a special form by chance. By a suitable modification in the basic assumptions it is tried to express the fact that the several parts of the form‐process is influenced by this. The resulting theorem of probability does contain a new parameter χ, given by physical circumstances, which express the degree of the considered self hindrance. With χ = 0 the known theorem of W. Kuhn is obtained as special case. The most probable form of the chain molecule is more or less curled, according to the magnitude of χ.
