✦ Synopsis

The polymerization of vinylpivalate in bulk, suspension and aqueous emulsion was studied and the kinetics of the reaction determined. The emulsion polymerization gives lower molecular weights thanthe suspension polymerization which gave molecular weights up to 3.5 lo6. The polyvinyl pivalate 0 is much more resistant to saponification than polyvinyl acetate. The product obtained by suspension polymerization can be injection--molded and gives samples with good mechanical qualities.
