The hitherto unknown compounds inosine N(1)-oxide and inosine N(1)-oxide 5'monophosphate have been synthesized by deamination of adenosine N(1)-oxide and its monophosphate with nitrosyl chloride in dimethylformamide. This method is also useful for deamination of adenosine, adenosine 5'-monophosphate
