✦ Synopsis
-
DNA-synthesizing time of the human epidermis has been determined in vitro by a double labelling autoradiographie technique using aH-thymidine. The DNA-synthesizing time is 5.9 hours at 37~ Elevated temperatures seem to shorten this period.
-
In control studies the increasing labelling index after prolonged incubation with 8H-thymidine at 37~ has been evaluated and the increase of labelled cells per hour determined. In computing these data, the length of the DNA-synthesizing time was found to be in accordance with the previously found values.
-
From this the generation time of the basal cell layer has been calculated to be about 6--7 days. The need for exact knowledge on the length of the different cell cycle phases is emphasized.
