Sunmury: I n search for a suitable and fast analytical method for assessing kinds of activated carbon for water purification t.here were carried out investigations with hydrogen peroxide. According t o their catalytic activity, the various kinds of activated carbon are capable of decomposing hydrogen peroxide t o different degrees and a t different rates. The released oxygen can be determined volumctrically. The results of investigation obtained on always fresh carbon samples with acid a n d bkaic groups were diarussed on the basis of the velocity constants of the oxygen development. An assessment of quality would be possible, in principle, but the surface characterist.ic of the kin& of carbon is considernbly superimposed by influences of morphology, so t h a t applying this method is advised against..
